A pick-me-up for bad skin days - A review of Klairs' Midnight Blue Calming Cream

Hey Kanvas Kult! Your sensitive skin gal Hannah is back to give you the DL of the highly rated Midnight Blue Calming Cream from Dear, Klairs. TL;DR I’ve been using this on and off for 3 months now. It is such a great product to have for my ‘bad skin' days.

If my skin is feeling a bit damaged, this blue hued Calming Cream is my go-to as the final step in my routine to treat stuff like pimples, sunburns and even that tingling redness after a hot shower (gotta be looking fresh for that 9am Zoom call). If you're like me and have sensitive skin on the dry side, I would recommend pairing this product with a good moisturiser underneath (rather than using it as a standalone cream). If I skipped this step, I noticed I'd wake up with slightly dehydrated skin.

The Midnight Blue Calming Cream is jam-packed with ingredients focused on healing rather than hydrating. That's not to say it's completely devoid of great humectants;

  • There’s Sodium Hyaluronate in there to smooth and plump oilier or combination skin.
  • There's also Shea Butter to help create a chill barrier that seals everything in.

But these are the two hero ingredients:

  • Centella Asiatica extract; used for thousands of years as a medicinal herb, studies suggest that it can help heal wounds, treat minor burns and combat stretch marks/scars. When mixed into skincare, the benefits are focused around reducing redness and irritation.
  • Guaiazulene (0.3%) is what makes this stuff blue. It's more than just a pretty colour - like Centella, it's widely used to help fight redness.

This cream has been such a lifesaver to soothe my skin whenever it's gotten angry and inflamed. I've found it’s worked best to settle those pimples nice and quickly (try it on maskne). I think it's secured a permanent place in my skin care routine!

An honest Axiology Foundation Review.

We saw the promo for Axiology's new mushroom-infused foundation. It's called Fungdation and it looked so good! Kellie couldn't wait to try it. Here's what she thought, as well as pics on how it looks on the skin. TLDR; it isn't for everyone, but which foundation is? If your skin type and texture preference matches the Fungdation profile, you'll never look back.

How to get rid of Strawberry Skin on legs

Got Strawberry Skin on your arms and legs?

Harmless but annoying, 'strawberry skin' usually arises after shaving or some form of hair removal that exposes the hair follicle or a clogged pore to oxidization (thereby turning it dark). It could also be an excess buildup of skin or keratin around the hair follicle (i.e. keratosis pilaris).Honing in on what triggers it for you is the key to preventing it in the future - along with the right skincare routine.
