Our honest Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen Review.
Shields like SPF, looks like tint, feels like skincare. That's the tagline of Beauty of Joseon's new Skin Tints and ahhh it sounds so good! We were lucky enough to receive promotional samples from the brand, and here's what we thought (TDLR; it's amazing and we can't wait to stock it).
And is it okay to use tinted sunscreen everyday? The short answer is yes. any good tinted sunscreen worth their salt will ensure that it contains the same level of UV protection as untinted versions. Adding pigment doesn't dilute the level of protection, it's simply another ingredient in the formula. It's also not harmful for the skin, provided you're using a trusted brand known for its clean formulas (such as Beauty of Joseon). So when it comes to Skin Tints, wear away! What is the disadvantage of tinted sunscreen? Well, frankly it's only the application and finish. A lot of tinted SPFs still don't cover a range of skin tones, and can sit uncomfortably on top of the skin, resistant to our best blending efforts (which is why so many of us prefer to use a a sheer foundation or tinted moisturiser in conjunction with a sunscreen. So with that said, let's see how Beauty of Joseon's new skin tint matches up.
The Beauty of Joseon Tinted Sunscreen is actually a pure mineral formula (not chemical or hybrid). The protection level is SPF40 which is quite high, and it also has been FDA approved (meets i.e. meets US standards for UV protection). It comes in no less than 12 shades (yay!) and a big tick goes to the fact that about 8 of those shades are devoted to the tan skin spectrum. So unlike some of its competitors (*ahem*) it's not just 50 shades of fair, plus one dark shade that's meant to fit the entire melanin-blessed population.
The key ingredients in the formula are zinc (the primary ingredient and over 20% of the formula), butyloctyl salicylate (a safe, common solvent), and then a bunch of emollients: cCoco-Caprylate/Caprate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate and Ethylhexyl Isononanoate. Big words but they are all good ingredients that also give formulas a silky, more weightless feel. At the other end of the formula, the only hanbang ingredient is mugwort, which is a slight deviation from what Beauty of Joseon is traditionally known for. There's also an olive oil derivative and vitamin E for additional moisture.
The only sunscreen filter in use is zinc oxide, which is an excellent, top-rated SPF filter that is usually out of reach for darker skin tones because it leaves a white cast. This shouldn't be an issue here however, thanks to the tint factor.
The sole questionable ingredient we can see is Alcohol Denat, somewhere in the middle of the formula. This is a drying alcohol, and while it offers several benefits (it can aid penetration, allows the formula to absorb quickly and even contains anti-microbial properties), it can also irritate sensitive skin. It's not near the top of the ingredients list, which is good - a small amount may only be used as a solvent. But it is something for sensitive skin to keep in mind.
The texture of the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is emulsion-like. Thinner than a tinted moisturiser, and just a tad thicker than a standard foundation. Just like the brand says, it is super lightweight. You can apply it pretty easily with your fingers but we still think for the smoothest application, a beauty blender does the best job. This could be annoying for people in a hurry in the mornings but honestly, it doesn't take a lot of work like a regular foundation and dries quickly. The feel is silky and hydrating - it's actually quite lovely. But although it feels moisturising on application, it definitely doesn't keep skin hydrated. Unless you have really oily skin, most of us will still need a moisturiser so don't skip this step.
The finish of the Beauty of Joseon Tinted Sunscreen is a soft glow. Not dewy like the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun, but not quite matte either. We'd probably say its a couple of degrees above a natural finish, and how 'glowy' it is really depends on the skincare you apply underneath it, if that makes sense. Kellie used SVR's Topialyse Barrier Cream underneath which is pretty hydrating, and her finish looked more satiny than Elle's, who used Raeka Beauty's Quench Me Moisturiser instead (she prefers a more matte look). So, we think this will suit all skin types on the oily-to-dry spectrum. The coverage is sheer, as expected. It isn't a replacement for foundation or even a BB Cream, but works well in place of a tinted moisturiser. In fact, the effect is blurring (which we LOVE), and it's hard to tell you're even wearing a tint! Perfect for those "no-makeup" makeup days or for people who hate the thought of foundation but want to add a hint of air-brushing to their face.
The Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen SPF 40 is a great product that's hard to knock. It definitely won't replace a moisturiser or even mid-coverage makeup, but is great in place of your sunscreen for a blurring, natural effect. Our preference is to use it at the start of the day with one re-application, switching to a regular, untinted SPF for more frequent re-application. We didn't notice pilling, but in our experience layering on tinted SPF can make skin feel a little patchy at the end of the day. It didn't clog our pores or break our skin out, and the finish was beautifully natural with a hint of a glow. Give it a try!

An honest Axiology Foundation Review.
We saw the promo for Axiology's new mushroom-infused foundation. It's called Fungdation and it looked so good! Kellie couldn't wait to try it. Here's what she thought, as well as pics on how it looks on the skin. TLDR; it isn't for everyone, but which foundation is? If your skin type and texture preference matches the Fungdation profile, you'll never look back.

Got Strawberry Skin on your arms and legs?
Harmless but annoying, 'strawberry skin' usually arises after shaving or some form of hair removal that exposes the hair follicle or a clogged pore to oxidization (thereby turning it dark). It could also be an excess buildup of skin or keratin around the hair follicle (i.e. keratosis pilaris).Honing in on what triggers it for you is the key to preventing it in the future - along with the right skincare routine.

An honest Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Aqua Fresh Review.
I tried the viral Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics - and truthfully it wasn't for me. It was just too dewy on my oily ass skin. But I decided to give the new Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Aqua Fresh Rice + B5 Sunscreen a go because it's meant to be for my skin type (oily but sometimes dehydrated on the U-Zone, prone to hormonal acne, sometimes sensitive).
