Q&A: Do You Need A Night Cream?

Wearing a night cream is usually the step we take at the end of the day just before our heads hit the pillow. Our skin does so much for us during the day so why not give it some love during our rest time? You will notice the sleep creams are thicker in consistency depending on the cream, but there is a reason for this! Night creams are usually a thicker consistency that contains hydrating ingredients and many contain compounds known to improve the skin’s appearance. Ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterolall help to retain moisture and repair the skin’s protective barrier. Retinol may also be present in night creams, which helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

In this Q&A we are focusing on two things: repair and soothing.

Your skin does all its heavy lifting at night: it repairs, restores and regenerates while you sleep, so a good night cream should focus on moisture and recovery.

What are the benefits of night cream?

Night creams are, by design, formulated to penetrate deep into the skin over the course of several hours (or while you get some beauty sleep) and are often richer in texture than their day cream counterparts. Three key ingredients for night cream are hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and peptides.

"Hyaluronic acid is a moisture magnet and is great for deep overnight hydration, and niacinamide is excellent for sensitive, blotchy skin and rosacea. Peptides are, in general, excellent to feed the skin overnight while in the repair stage."

So here are our recommended list of night creams! Keep one on the bed side table so you can always put some on before resting your beautiful face!

Additionally, this herb improves skin elasticity and treats skin conditions such as eczema as well as other irritations. Tannin in the herb also gives it pore minimising abilities.

Oat Extract – commonly used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and sensitivity. This ingredient is a humectant, therefore attracts and retains moisture. It also has anti-inflammatory and healing benefits that gently soothe irritated skin.

Jojoba Seed Oil – rich in Vitamins A & E to help prevent signs of ageing. Also penetrates deep into the skin for intense hydration, controls sebum production and effectively heals acne breakouts.

How to repair a damaged skin barrier (from someone who has had to repair their skin barrier multiple times)

Skin irritations and allergies are never fun, but a damaged skin barrier is a whole new level of hell. The good news, is that our skin is a resilient organ and can heal relatively quickly. The not-so-good news is that you'll need to peel back all your fancy skincare for the time being, get consistent with a simple routine, and resist putting any active ingredients on your skin until it heals. Beauty of Joseon's Revive Eye Serum: Does it live up to the hype?

This is the first eye cream I ever used to completion

Listen, I've always been a bit sketchy on eye creams and serums. Are they actually necessary? Do you even need one? Then my late 30s hit me like a trout slap in the face, and so did the sudden dryness, fine lines, and pilling if I dared to wear makeup.
