My review of K-Beauty brand Purito’s From Green Cleansing Oil and Deep Foam Cleanser
I finally tried Purito’s From Green cleansers, following months of abstinence after being put off by this review. Actually, the review was fairly benign, except for the fact that it didn’t remove the reviewer’s waterproof makeup effectively. I don’t even wear waterproof makeup on the reg, but hey, maybe I will one day right?
Anyway, after using vitamin C, BHAs, AHAs and retinol on my sensitive skin, it decided it had enough. One day it was literally glowing, and the next, covered in tiny red bumps. Initially, I thought it was a breakout, as it looked just like acne. But when more BHA and aggressive cleansing didn’t seem to do the trick, I realized the little red bumps were actually my inflamed skin barrier, crying out for mercy.
Ah sensitive skin, so much fun. Well, I’d been here before, so I knew what to do. The first thing I did was cut out all my active ingredients. My elaborate routine was replaced with a double cleanser, soothing toner and simple moisturizer. I chose the TIA’M Vita B5 Toner, because I knew my skin would drink up the gentle formula of panthenol, natural moisturizing factors and peptides. For my moisturizer, I went back to the trusty Barrier Cream from SVR Laboratories, which has always saved my skin from my unbridled enthusiasm for acids.
My cleansers however, needed an upgrade. I was using Pyunkang Yul’s silky Cleansing Foam, which I love. My skin is pretty oily, and this would clean it beautifully without over or under-cleansing. However, with a broken skin barrier comes dryness and dehydration. This is because a healthy skin barrier functions to seal in moisture. If your skin has become sensitive from overusing products, you’ll probably need to go down the pH scale with your cleanser, and use a heavier moisturizer/occlusive than you’re used to. Trust me on this!
Pyunkang Yul’s Cleansing Foam has a pH of ~6.5 to 7. It’s not particularly high, but not low either. That’s where Purito came in. I decided to try its From Green Cleansing Oil along with its From Green Deep Foaming Cleanser – the latter which boasts an admirably low pH of ~5.5. For reference, this matches our skin’s pH. Anything lower is a little too acidic (read: irritating) and higher is too alkaline (read: drying) when your skin is in a rough patch. For a full guide to pH and how it can impact your skin, check out our blog post here, or our YouTube clip here. In addition, Purito’s cleansers don’t contain any fragrances, sulfates or ingredients which can aggravate vulnerable skin.
The From Green Cleansing Oil is made of olive, sunflower, jojoba, sweet almond and grape seed oils. It feels so thick and satisfying on my skin, which can’t get enough moisture right in its sensitized state. It also cleaned well, and didn’t feel uncomfortable or heavy. Nor did my sensitive skin breakout. The pump dispenser is super convenient, given I always seem to be in a rush in the mornings.
Now, I can’t attest to its ability to remove waterproof foundation – but I will say that I’m currently at the clumpy end of my bottle of Diorshow’s waterproof mascara, and Purito seemed to remove it from my lashes with ease. It also took off my stubborn lipstick. No complaints here! I will say however, that it doesn’t emulsify as easily as other oil cleansers. But that’s not a deal-breaker for me. It still rinses off well in warm water.
The From Green Deep Foaming Cleanser contains centella, which is an excellent ingredient for taking away redness and inflammation. The formula uses other ingredients I’m partial to, like licorice root and green tea. I chose it because it’s a low pH cleanser which is also foaming. I love foamy face washes, it just makes me feel like I’m really cleaning, you know?! I also kinda dug the herbal, earthy scent. There’s no burning, tightness or discomfort, and after a few days of this new, gentle routine, those little red bumps cleared up. I haven’t yet gone back to the full gamut of active ingredients yet, but I’ve reintroduced a niacinamide serum and twice-weekly BHAs without much protest.
The other great thing about the Purito cleansers is that they are fairly basic: they’ll fall in place into anyone’s skincare routine, and are compatible with any skincare product. On top of that, Purito is vegan and cruelty-free. What’s not to love?

Our honest Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen Review.
Shields like SPF, looks like tint, feels like skincare. That's the tagline of Beauty of Joseon's new Skin Tints and ahhh it sounds so good! We were lucky enough to receive promotional samples from the brand, and here's what we thought (TDLR; it's freaking amazing and we can't wait to stock it).

An honest Axiology Foundation Review.
We saw the promo for Axiology's new mushroom-infused foundation. It's called Fungdation and it looked so good! Kellie couldn't wait to try it. Here's what she thought, as well as pics on how it looks on the skin. TLDR; it isn't for everyone, but which foundation is? If your skin type and texture preference matches the Fungdation profile, you'll never look back.

Got Strawberry Skin on your arms and legs?
Harmless but annoying, 'strawberry skin' usually arises after shaving or some form of hair removal that exposes the hair follicle or a clogged pore to oxidization (thereby turning it dark). It could also be an excess buildup of skin or keratin around the hair follicle (i.e. keratosis pilaris).Honing in on what triggers it for you is the key to preventing it in the future - along with the right skincare routine.
