Eczema and other forms of atopic dermatitis are awful. It’s not just the unsightly element, it’s the discomfort – the itching, flaking, redness and cracked skin that can keep you up all night. Many skincare products make big claims about curing atopic skin, but fail to deliver. In fact, two out of the three founders of Kanvas Beauty used to suffer from dermatitis. So, one of the first question we asked ourselves was, well what skincare actually helps eczema?!

Do you have those days when you wake up and your skin feels as dry and as cracked as the Sahara in July? So how do you fix it? The first thing to do is to figure out if you have dry or dehydrated skin: the former refers to skin that doesn’t produce enough natural oils, and feels papery and flaky. The latter covers skin that feels oily and congested, but still somehow tight and dry.
What is hyperpigmentation? In a nutshell, it covers sun spots, age spots, acne scars (i.e. post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) and general patchiness. It’s common and harmless – but can be annoying! Luckily, expensive laser treatments aren’t always necessary. Good, ol’fashioned skincare can go a long way to combatting dark spots.
Oily skin is straight up devious. Apply too much skincare, and you look like you’re perpetually sweaty. Apply too little, and you’re in the twilight zone where your face is oily but still dehydrated. But don’t worry, we got the ultimate skincare for oily skin. These bad boys will regulate excess sebum, control shine, and hydrate without clogging pores. It’s a delicate balance, but we reckon our products (which includes Korean skincare, French goodies and vegan beauty) have gotten it just right. In fact, we’ve got an entire routine for oily skin, just give us a shout and we’ll help you out!
Combination skin refers to a skin type that exhibits both oily and dry areas on the face. The t-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, tends to be oily, while the cheeks, jaw, and hairline are usually dry. This skin type can be challenging to care for, as it requires the use of products that address both oiliness and dryness.
If we had to name some of the most annoying things we could think of, we’d say: stepping on a wet floor with socks on; running into an ex while extremely hungover; aaand blackheads. Definitely blackheads. Thankfully, there are quick ways of dealing with blackheads (also known as comedones): From blackhead remover creams and pore-sucking clay masks, to gritty facial cleansers and exfoliating toners - blackhead removal has become quite an art these days. Yep, we watch those gross but oh-so-fascinating squeeze clips on IG as well!
Sensitive or reactive skin is skin that is easily irritated by environmental factors or certain skincare products. It may feel dry, itchy, or red, and may be prone to rashes or breakouts. Sensitive skin can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, environmental conditions, or the use of harsh or irritating products. People with sensitive skin may need to be extra careful when selecting skincare and beauty products, as many common ingredients can cause irritation or allergic reactions. It is important to use products that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin and to test new products on a small patch of skin before using them on a larger area. Gentle, fragrance-free products are often the best choice for those with sensitive skin.
